Our mission is to ensure senior, disabled, and housebound neighbors are not alone. With fresh, nutritious meals, a friendly visit, and a safety check, our seniors may live independently in their own homes, where they want to be.
Riverside Meals on Wheels, Inc., delivers fresh meals daily to housebound seniors and individuals with temporary or permanent disabilities, residing in the greater Riverside County. Volunteers deliver meals between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Menus are formulated for senior nutrition, and the general diet is reduced salt, fat, and sugar. Daily contact with one of our volunteers is an added safety or security check and can often be the only contact our seniors receive for the day.
In the 1960s, members of the First United Methodist Church in Riverside began preparing and delivering meals to seniors and housebound neighbors in their community.
As the number of people requesting meals increased steadily, the group realized that a formal program was needed to ensure that services would be continued beyond their tenure.
In 1972, Meals on Wheels Riverside was established.
Today, we continue to expand into surrounding cities in Riverside County to help seniors of all types of lives, regain strength and independence.
